Emsella – Everything You Need to Know

Emsella? What’s that? Why is it called “Emsella”? What is it used for?

The word “Emsella” is made of two parts, “EM” which stands for electromagnetic and “sella” which in Latin, means chair. It is an electromagnetic chair. The chair’s electromagnetics cause contractions of your pelvic floor muscles as you sit down. If you put your arm across the chair, it will move and flex rhythmically with the pulses from the chair. The pulses can simulate 11,800 Kegels in just 28 minutes when sitting on the chair.

This high-tech piece of equipment is very similar to a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner. BTL Industries, a European leader in medical equipment and devices, manufactured it.

You would be crazy to attempt 11,800 Kegels in just 28 minutes.

Your urogenital health is dependent on your pelvic floor muscles. Urogenital? Your bladder and reproductive organs make up the urogenital region of your body. The urogenital area ages just like every other part of the body. The pelvic floor supports urogenital organs like a sling. The muscles can become weak over time or be affected by life events like childbirth, menopause, or urogenital surgeries (eg. prostate). The sling becomes looser when the pelvic floor muscles weaken, and the urogenital organs fall backward. It almost feels like your bladder is sitting down on the job.

What do you think?

An incontinence problem can cause a reclining bladder, which can be very irritating and impact your quality of life. Are you concerned about your bladder leaking when you cough, laugh, sneeze, or sneeze? Do you wake up multiple times per night to empty your bladder? Are you unable to get to the bathroom in time because you don’t receive any warnings that you have to urinate? Are you always looking for the closest washroom? Are you required to use incontinence pads or pantyliners? Do you worry about the smell? These are signs of stress and urge incontinence. They are also a sign your pelvic floor muscles (and your bladder) are weakening.

As with every other part of our body, exercise is important. You need to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles and make them tighter.

So just do Kegels, right? Sure, if it were possible to do 11,000 Kegels in a half hour. Or ever. Even if you’re a good Kegel-er (many people struggle with them), you can only use 40% of your muscle power. It would take 70 hours of Kegels per day (we’ll let you do the math on that one) to reach the 11,000 mark.

Cue Emsella | Emsella Urogynecology Treatments – Available in our Long Island Wellness Clinics

Emsella’s electromagnetic stimulation allows you to perform supramaximal pelvic floor contractions, which is more than 95-100% of what your muscle strength is. Emsella’s program of contractions includes periods of facilitated relaxation to ensure that your muscles are not fatigued.

You can see that Emsella helps you to tone your pelvic floor muscles and tighten your sling, which in turn supports your bladder. This leads to an improvement in incontinence. It works for both men and women!

Not only does the Emsella treatment improve incontinence issues, but it results in a significant improvement in sexual health. It has been proven beneficial for men, helping with causes of erectile dysfunction and women report feeling tighter and firmer vaginal walls and stronger sexual urges.

Emsella treatment is noninvasive and can be done in a few minutes!

You can wear street clothes and then get up to resume your normal activities. Six sessions of 28 minutes each are required to complete a treatment series. The sessions are typically twice per week for most people. The best results can usually be seen around 2 weeks after the series is completed.

Is it necessary to continue? Yes, but not too often. One 28-minute session on the Emsella chair at our Long Island women’s health clinic per 6 months. Easy, fast, no downtime.

What is the cost? The cost of six treatments in a series varies from place to place, with maintenance appointments also varying. Contact Invigorate Health to find out what a series of treatments would cost.

Emsella is for everyone.

A workout is good for any part of the body. No matter your age, you can’t do enough sit-ups. The same applies to Kegels. This is the same for anyone who wants to strengthen their pelvic floor.

Contraindications?

Anybody with metal implants in their bodies – pacemakers, artificial joints, copper IUDs, etc. will not be able to experience the benefits of Emsella. You cannot have any metal in your body, especially in the pelvic region. This is just like an MRI. Emsella is not recommended for people with a tight pelvic floor. At Invigorate Health, we will assess you to determine if Emsella is right for you.
